How To Dress For A Black Tie Affair
Posted in Calgary
|   April 18, 2018

The wedding invitation you just received has those three beautiful, scary, exciting words - black tie affair. So exciting. So scary. Because you have a closet full of adorable dresses, perfect for work and perfect for Sundays at the park, but your selection of formal gowns is a bit more limited. We get it - how many ballgowns can a gal own, right? Dressing for formal weddings is a bit like playing fairy tale - going all out and trying on a glamourous look that you've been envying on Instagram. How do you choose what outfit to wear? Here are a few our tips for dressing for a black tie wedding.

  1. Sparkles. Nothing dazzles up an outfit like sparkles - seriously! They make even a gown you snagged on sale look high end, and with some much reflection, no one will notice if it's from a season or two ago. Sparkles aren't going to break your bank account either - some of our favourite shops like Zara, H&M and Dynamite carry sparkles every season, meaning finding one won't be a hassle!
  2. Mix high/low. So you've got that one top that is AH-MAZING. And you'd wear it everywhere if you could, especially since you spent a pretty penny on it. It's time to shop your best friends closets to find the perfect bottom to go with. Your high end piece will be front and centre and you'll look perfectly put together.
  3. Statement Jewellery. There's a reason every woman needs a little black dress - their versatilty means you can play it up with fab accessories and statement jewellery. Chandelier earrings that make a big impact, chunky necklaces, fashion watches and pattered tights can all take a little black dress to the next level. And for the serious fashionistas? A fascinator or hat packs a major punch.
